IF: Pattern - Magazine sketch #8

Pen (click for bigger pic)

Pen w/watercolor (click for bigger pic)

Illustration Friday's theme is "pattern". I like using magazines as sketchpads because of the texture & pattern of the blocks of text.

Dr. Sketchy's: Manko & Berlin Cabaret Duo: The Horasitas

Kinda NSFW, click for a bigger pic.

I filled an entire sketchpad w/Dr. Sketchy's stuff, I have to go buy a new one.

Charcoal pencil #3

Drawing #3, in which I realize I'm left handed and have to wash my hands between drawings or else they look like this.

Charcoal pencil

I was trying out charcoal pencil sketches. This is a girl with a bird in her hair.

Magazine sketch #5: Long faced lady

Today I've been doing my drawing-a-week thing for exactly a year. I was fairly successful for the most part. I missed a week here or there but made multiple posts during other weeks, so I have 65 total for the year. Yay for drawing!

The last of my drawings from the magazine sketches I did a week or so ago.

Dr. Sketchy's: Raquel Reed in a tribute to "celebrity"

My 1/2 minute drawings are getting better.

The first challenge is always an opposite hand drawing. Usually I forget to label those and wonder why I have a randomly horribly drawing in my book. This time I remembered.

She was wearing really large sunglasses for most of the longer poses. They did not turn out well in sketchpad land.

Sorry for the huge post, RSS feed. :)

Magazine sketch #4 Octo-cover

I added quick washes of color in Photoshop because otherwise it was too confusing.

RIP John Hughes

chris lamb: Seriously, if there's not a web comic tomorrow of John Hughes at the pearly gates saying to St. Peter "Check under 'Abe Froman'?", I'm going to be really disappointed.
me: I know what I'm drawing tonight!!
chris lamb: OH MY GOD YOU HAVE TO
me: I will :D
chris lamb:. (and give me credit!)
me: duh

Dr. Sketchy's Anti Art School

I finally got out to Dr. Sketchy's, a life drawing event that uses assorted burlesque performers. (Part of the website might be NSFW). This one's theme was Alice in Wonderland and featured the sassy 4'2" multimedia artist Trina Rose. (Small-ish pics posted, click for bigger versions) I haven't done life drawings since 2001, so I was a little rusty but got better as the poses got longer.

3 min sketches.

5 or 10 min sketches (I forget). :D
